I was recently accepted into the University of Oklahoma’s MBA program. I encourage anyone that may feel like this is a goal they cannot attain to just GO FOR IT! You. Can. Do. It.

To my fellow service members and veterans: Don’t let your education benefits go unused – they’re there for YOU! Take advantage of the opportunities they provide to invest in your future.

Pursuing a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is a pivotal step in my career journey, and I am excited for the potential opportunity to join a program renowned for its commitment to leadership development, experiential learning, and strong connections within the business community. Having spent over five years at Love’s Travel Stops and served twelve years in the military, I believe OU’s MBA program will provide the advanced skills and network necessary to achieve my long-term career goal of becoming a strategic leader in both the corporate and military sectors.

OU’s MBA program stands out to me because of its focus on leadership, collaboration, and real-world learning opportunities. I’ve had the privilege of experiencing this firsthand as a participant in the Executive Education Partnership Program with OU/OSU. The program provided me with valuable insights into the societal role of business, enhanced my decision-making abilities, and broadened my leadership perspective. The enthusiasm of the faculty and the curriculum’s impact on my professional growth left me eager for more, motivating me to pursue a full MBA at OU.

At Love’s, I have held numerous roles, including Operations Manager, General Manager, District Manager, and currently, Manager of Merchandising, where I lead projects impacting over 650 locations. These experiences have strengthened my ability to manage teams, drive operational efficiency, and develop innovative solutions to complex business challenges. However, I recognize that as I take on more strategic roles, I need to refine my ability to think critically, analyze global market trends, and develop long-term strategies for growth. The OU MBA will equip me with the strategic mindset and analytical tools to address these challenges and lead effectively in the evolving business landscape.

My military experience has also shaped my leadership philosophy, providing me with a unique perspective on teamwork, discipline, and strategic thinking. The challenges I’ve faced in the military have deepened my understanding of organizational dynamics and decision-making in high-pressure situations. Combining this perspective with the advanced business knowledge gained at OU will allow me to bridge the gap between military leadership and corporate strategy, enabling me to make meaningful contributions to both areas.

In addition to the academic benefits, OU’s collaborative environment is something I deeply value. I look forward to engaging with a diverse group of peers, sharing experiences, and learning from others with varied professional backgrounds. I am particularly excited about participating in case studies and industry consulting projects, where I can apply my experience while expanding my knowledge. These opportunities will not only enhance my leadership skills but also expand my professional network, which will be instrumental as I advance in my career.

Ultimately, my goal is to leverage the skills, knowledge, and network I gain at OU to drive strategic and sustainable growth at Love’s Travel Stops and in the military. I believe that the University of Oklahoma’s MBA program will provide me with the tools and resources to make a lasting impact, not only within my organization but also in the broader business community. It also would make me proud to be a part of a university that my company so proudly advocates for and supports.

Thank you for considering my application. I am confident that the potential experiences and insights gained at OU will enable me to contribute meaningfully to both Love’s and the Army and excel as a strategic leader in the future.
